During Southwest's first year of operation the agency established seven community residences in the communities of Dunrea, Killarney, Ninette and Wawanesa. Today we have extended our residential support to nineteen individuals and operate three community residences in the communities of Killarney and Ninette. Our skilled, compassionate and committed staff provide twenty-four hour support and assistance with daily living skills, shopping, banking, medical appointments and recreational activities & excursions.
Our services follow the mandate set out in The Vulnerable Persons Living with a Mental Disability Act (VPA), the legal requirement in the Province of Manitoba as established by the Community Living and disABILITY Services and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We believe in organizing resources around people and ensuring that the services that are delivered encompass their dreams and needs. Individuals receive the support and assistance they require to achieve their life objectives. We provide opportunities for individuals to participate in the respective communities, to build friendships, work relationships and participate in leisure activities. Assisting in living their best life.

The ability to communicate, to connect with others in a uniquely personal, meaningful way is a basic need shared by us all. The aim of the Communication Program at Southwest is to empower individuals to communicate more effectively, to enhance their quality of life, by providing the means for key outcomes to become a person’s everyday experience ~ increased independence and self-determination; realizing of personal goals and aspirations; developing and maintaining inter-personal relationships; accessing services and resources, and participating in the life of the community where they live.
Our Communication Program is continually evolving in response to changing communication needs that intrinsically inform the exploration and development of individualized alternative and adaptive approaches; the use of enabling devices and technologies; and innovative graphic supports.
