Southwest is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors who wholy support and embrace the Vision, Mission, Values, and Motto that Southwest stands behind.  Without a cohesive Board of Directors (Board) liaising with the Executive Director our model would never have worked and grown as it has. Being a Board member brings with it a responsibility to ensure that Southwest continues to serve the esteemed supported individuals while offering guidance to our Executive Director who is responsible for overseeing all staff, as well as the operations of Southwest. Each Board member is personally held to the expectation that they will “discharge the duties of the office honestly, in good faith, and in the best interests of Southwest, and exercise the degree of care, diligence, and skill that a reasonably prudent person would exercise in similar circumstances.”
We as a Board expect no less from ourselves or each other!
Former Executive Director Eleanor Struth,  her staff, and the Board in existence at that time held the first of many organizational meetings on February 7, 2000.
Quickly following the initial organizational meeting many changes quickly followed:

March 10, 2000, Southwest became incorporated
April 1, 2000, Southwest became a registered charity
With all these dramatic changes were going on, the ongoing support for the individuals under the Southwest umbrella was carried on seamlessly.
Southwest’s commitment to each and every individual that is supported is to
ensure they lead healthy, positive, inclusive, and productive lives
while becoming contributing members of their respective communities.

They are members of our communities and
    society in every capacity!
